In Praise of Online Obscurity →
Maureen Evans began a nifty project: tweeting recipes, each condensed to 140 characters. She soon amassed 3,000 followers, but her online life still felt like a small town: Among the regulars, people knew each other and enjoyed conversing. But as her audience grew and grew, eventually cracking 13,000, the sense of community evaporated. People stopped talking to one another or even talking to...

Why Tumblr is Kicking Posterous Ass →
The answer is as easy as it is counter-intuitive: Tumblr is a New York company and Posterous is a Silicon Valley company. Or, to put it another way: Posterous is an engineered product, while Tumblr is a designed product.

Snarkmarket asks in which sequence kids should view the Star Wars films. The first option is its intended order, Episode I through VI. The second is their original release order -IV to VI and I to III. Snarkmarket offers and alternate sequence: Let me make the case for an alternate sequence. Tell the story according to the age-appropriateness of the films. Essentially, you make the trilogy a big...

Did P4K Magazine Sell Out by Giving Lady Gaga a... →
I think she really appeals 2 middle america, though. Like she represents something ‘zany’ and ‘glamorous’ that helps ppl disconnect from their real lives’, and gives them an absurd image to lose themselves in. Wonder if she will evolve into an ‘icon’, or if people will just ‘lose interest’ and she will just become another fallen star who performs in gay bars full of audacious homosexers who...

Fringe just gave me a huge mindfuck.
dommm: They said tonight was a new episode, which it is. But then I saw Charlie. CHARLIE’S DEAD. DID I MISS AN EPISODE?! DID THEY REINCARNATE HIM THROUGH FRINGE SCIENCE?! But then I looked online and saw that it’s an unaired episode from the first season. Where did you get that info that it’s an unaired episode from season 1? Never mind.

A World of Megabeats and Megabytes →
MY 21st century started in 1998, when I got a new toy. It was the Diamond Rio PMP300, a flimsy plastic gadget the size of a cigarette pack. PMP stood for Portable Music Player. It had a headphone jack, and it played a recently invented digital file format: MPEG-1 Audio Layer Three, or MP3.
